Growing up as a foreigner gave me the opportunity to look at my environment from a different point of view. I was raised with Mexican, Spanish and German influences and went to school in Belgium. A crazy mix of language and cultures. 5 to be precise. Spanish, German, Dutch, French and English. To handle this chaos you need to be able to take a step back and look at things from a distance. I never really appreciated the unique perspective that this gave me until I started studying architecture. Design is just one more language. A way of communicating your view on the world and how you want to change it. Learning it took me on an adventure (which I’m still on, and probably will be for life) to Brussels, Barcelona and now Madrid. Where I’ll go next is a mystery. And I like it that way!
